How much my bisalp cost in Thailand (2024)

Female sterilization for medical tourists in Thailand have their benefits, but it’s worth knowing what costs a bisalp entails.

After getting approved for a bilateral salpingectomy in Chiang Mai, I decided to enjoy Bangkok rather than continue doctor searching. Still, out of curiosity, I called some hospitals in Bangkok to ask about their prices for bilateral tubal ligation. Months before the trip, some hospitals in Bangkok sent me their quotes for a laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy.

Bangkok is a feasible option, especially for first-timers to Thailand or medical tourism. While more expensive than Chiang Mai, Bangkok still offers high-quality medical care at a fraction of the cost in many Western countries. With numerous accredited hospitals and experienced specialists to choose from, some hospitals in Bangkok, like Bumrungrad, Samitivej Sukhumvit, or Bangkok Hospital, specifically cater to medical tourists. Hospitals for medical tourists have interpreters and staff who speak languages such as English, Chinese, or Arabic. The city’s medical facilities often provide comprehensive packages that include pre- and post-procedure care, making it a practical choice for those seeking both affordability and high treatment standards. Bangkok is the most accessible city internationally. It has two airports and caters to most international destinations in Thailand. Getting around Bangkok is easier with a highly developed transport system like the BTS.

Female sterilization costs in Bangkok

When I made inquiries to hospitals in Bangkok, I always asked right away for the price of the procedure. Some hospitals still require you to consult with one of their doctors first before they inform you of their price. Other hospitals let you know as soon as possible. To give you an idea of how much hospitals in Bangkok charge, a bilateral salpingectomy (bisalp) at the famous premium hospital for medical tourists costs 180,000-210,000 THB. A tubal ligation would cost 73600 baht + doctor’s fees at a mid-range hospital.

The cost of my bilateral salpingectomy (bisalp) surgery in Chiang Mai

I ended up spending 70,000 THB (approximately 2100 USD or 115,000 PHP) for my bilateral salpingectomy at a Christian missionary hospital in Chiang Mai. The bisalp at the university hospital where I first met my surgeon costs 120,000 THB (3500 USD or 203,000 PHP). Since the rate for the same procedure is double in the university hospital, we decided to have my fallopian tubes yeeted out in the Christian hospital. On top of my hospital expenses, I spent 65,000 PHP more for airfare (Manila- Chiang Mai), Airbnb, Grab, pocket money and miscellaneous expenditures. That’s 180,000 PHP- the price I have to pay for a lifetime without ever experiencing a pregnancy or parenthood against my will (with the added bonus of ovarian cancer prevention by 65%). I did not bother going to the more premium hospitals in Chiang Mai anymore. With their astronomical rates, I might as well have my surgery in Bangkok if they’re the only options I have left in Chiang Mai.

Bisalp cost was worth it for my health

Thailand is an excellent destination for sterilization due to its affordability and quality of care. Researching the costs associated with any procedure is part and parcel of medical tourism. Knowing how much sterilization may cost in Thailand makes making informed decisions easier.
